I have an 01 WRX (pretty standard) and I've been looking at the SSmap2 upgrade on Scoobysport's site.

It seems to claim that "Unlike other replacement ECUs, our work allows your dealer's diagnostic equipment to work exactly as it did before."

Does this actually mean that I can upgrade and not have my main dealer jumping up and down and looking to revoke the warranty ?

While they can't tell by looking at the ecu, they will by driving it. Maybe they'd replace your ecu under warranty without telling you

I'd recommend against trying to fool anyone with an EcuTek remap, either your dealer or insurance companies

Damn,

That was kind of what I thought as well. I don't have enough disposable cash (as a rule) to give the warranty a miss and really envy those on here that can.

Looks like I've got another 18 months to wait unless anyone can suggest anything I can do within warranty to get more oomph out of the car.

The budget will be around £650 (same as the ECUTEK mapping) about 60% of which will probably go on main-dealer labour costs no doubt. (sorry I'm just not good with my hands other than the usual oils/tyres).

Simple terminology for a doofus would be appreciated.

The car has always been run on Optimax if that's any use but other than quickshift gears and upgraded cosmetics (skirts, spoilers + morettes) it is a basic spec 01WRX.

LOL

Richard is correct. If the dealer drove your car, flat out, he would be able to tell that it wasn't standard. Also his Select Monitor would should that it was producing more boost than standard.

Not suggesting anything but, if you ever wanted your standard map loaded back on, this takes 180 seconds and there would be no charge

Thumbs up

Do it!!

You will never last 18 months. I would crack in a matter of days, especially if the money was smouldering in my pocket.

Looks like you live near enough to SS. See what you can work out with Pete.

Should there be a major issue with the car then the standard map can be reflashed in minutes. The dealer should'nt be driving your car flat out after normal services. The WRXs are getting excellent results after being Ecuteked
