Hi peeps,

I have been having an ongoing prob with the scoob lately, slight misfire when under load etc, so on the weekend i decided that i would take a trip down to my local Scooby delears and get some new spark plugs, i got back home and started to fit them and realised that they are 6b's instead of 7b's which i had in the 93WRX before, are these ok to use on the WRX...i put them in anyway and now the car is coughing/misfiring when idleing, but it has sorted out the misfire under loud prob...

I have gapped the new 6b's to 0.7mm is this right, if anyone could advise me wether to replace the plugs agian with the old plugs or to regap the new one's or even to get some new 7b's it would be much appricated,

Cheers,

John.

if you are not running high boost the 6b's should be ok, sounds like something else causing the misfire.
have you changed the coil packs yet as its a common fault for them to cause this problem on the early cars.

just got a new set for mine £200!!!!

Me too, 93 WRX, 6's gapped @0.7. I've also had bother with misfire, and a couple of jerked necks! Most common problem is coilpacks. The plastic surround under the rubber sleeve is prone to cracking, causing the spark to escape. Try loosning them very slightly, as sometimes they are over-tightened and are off the plug. Failing this take them out and check each sleeve for cracking. You can also get them from breakers quite cheaply, mine cost 54 quid delivered from a breakers in Inverness, fitted them and hey presto, no bother.

Unhappy

I got them from graham goode that was delivered price including vat!
BIG AIT: i was working on the theory that the originals were 8 years old and it wouldn't hurt to change them, also two side effects arose from changing them:
1, car runs better
2, peace of mind knowing that they are definately fine now.
and seeing as the missus uses it everyday for work i could do without her ringing me up complaining that the car has broken down!

Matt.

yeah, you are right to change them as after 8 years under that sort of heat they will be ready to pack up anyway

my car still had a problem after fitting new plugs but it went away after an ECU re-set!

the car was ok for around 6 weeks then i left it standing for 3 weeks (garaged) and it came back

time for new coil packs i thought

Hey Webster, I was only messing! If you have the spare cash it is a good idea to change them for future confidence. Johnnygav, I've a good one left if you find you need one to check or whatever, if you pay postage you can borrow it.
