Hello folks,

Im sure this has been covered before, probably several times, but I need to know before i purchase a TurboXS dump valve if its going to be enough to cause fueling upsets and subsequently wreck my engine. I will be fitting a Blitz LM induction cone at the weekend and would like to know if the DV is going to be a cause for concern. The car is an Sti 5 with 13,000 miles on it.

Best of regards always,
Kevin.

If its a vent to atmosphere then yes, The blitz will also cause you problems, not so good filtration and possible maf damage.

I thought vta dumps made the car run richer, making it less lightly to det?

Only on lift off ... they also allow pressure pulses back onto the maf causing it to sporadically misread. If incorrectly set they can leak allowing boost pressure to seep out when under mainfold vacuum, this can run a car rich, really best avoided if possible but thats just my opinion. Too rich can be as bad as too lean.

Totally agree with Bob. Re-circulating DV allows constant pressure on lift off. Avoid VTA. Also Blitz cone looks good and sounds nice but may well screw your MAF sensor. They are particularly sensitive in the STI 5/6 and costly to replace. Suggest you stick with the air box and a good panel filter (ITG, K&N or stock) Performance gain on both counts is marginal; more to do with extra noise!

Took my cousin Tony's blitz induction kit off his car after it killed a MAF. We put the standard airbobox back on with an ITG plate filter in and the car runs a lot better now. Car is a 20k STI 5.

P.S Guy grom Grade A spares can supply STI 5 MAF's for 125 quid - good price.

I installed a Blitz filter, Blitz VTA BOV and programmable ECU witha MAP sensor. The MAF is now only used to display the air intake temp.

Fitting a VTA BOV will make the MAF say that more air is there (since it assumes that the air is being recirculated), but there is less air due to VTA, so the car will run rich and idle badly.

Currymonster, you can buy a new MAF (the important sensing part) for £70. I got mine from Cheam motors last week.

Will cone filters alone potentially damage the maf then (my 96 jap), also will they run richer than necessary? Or is it only when a vta is fitted too?
