Looking at the external crankshaft pulley (the one that drives powersteering pump, etc). Should it wobble? Mine doesn't seem to run completely true - is it something I should worry about?

Mine did the same last week. Check the bolt in the centre. I thought the crank was gone from the noise.

I took the belt off and the pulley wobbled by had. Removed the bolt and pulley, started engine and all sounded OK. I'll get the new pulley, woodruff key and belt Thursday, hopefully all will be OK then and the crank isn't damaged.

Zanlin,

did your pulley make a ticking/tapping sound? And where do you get a new pulley from?

There was a ticking noise, but with the pulley putting the crank out of balance there were a number of other noises.

I removed the alternator belt and pulley and started the engine and all sounded OK. Don't run it too long as the battery has to supply all the electrical power

I called a couple of places to get a pulley, but ended up ordering from the local scooby dealer, £90, plus £1 for a new woodruff key.

Go to pick it up this afternoon.

Checked pulley this evening - the bolt was loose! Don't think I've damaged the hole or key since I caught it quite early on, but might change it soon. I see that it's got some type of "cush" damper - this seemed pretty solid and perished. How long does this usually last? Should I replace?

Has anyone tried a lighter alloy pulley?

Andy
