Has any had a problem where there car will start fine from cold, and also start fine when hot, but if left for about 30 minutes to
cool the car wont start. Eventually after another 30 minutes
(when the engine is cooler) it will start.
I have a 1996 WRX import that keeps stranding me, any ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Question

Are you sure you're not flooding it? You musn't touch the throttle AT ALL when starting it, it's very sesitive.
Next time it does it, try the flooded start procedure: Crank the engine while slowly pushing the throttle to the floor.

2 things that commonly get mentioned:

Crank position sensor - with this knackered, you won't get a strong spark apparently... had this go on a Renault 19 16v.

Temperature sensor - without this, the engine management doesn't apply cold start enrichment (or something like that).

If I'm giving duff information, would someone please correct me?

Hope this helps
Nick.

Out of interest, I had similar problem which was diagnosed as a fault with the key!!!
Some chip or other, or the receiver in the car was causing a fault.
Tried using the spare key and have no problems for well over 3 weeks now.
Strange but true!

Have a look at an article in March's Max Power. Its to do with improving earths. It specifically talks about jap wrx's. Quote - "A lot of cars, especially jap ones, have the thinnest possible wiring fitted, to keep costs and weight down. If the earth wires from the negative terminal of the battery to the body and then to the engine are a bit crappy, none of the electrical parts will work as well as they should."

Gives step by step instructions. Going to try it on my jap import wrx as it doesnt start very easily

Mine developed the same problem (95 import) about a month ago so I posted on here and somebody suggested "wiggling" the plug attached to the cam sensor. I tried it and it didn`t happen again until last night so I fiddled with it again and the car started
