Can anyone tell me if its worth putting an uprated cambelt in to replace the standard one when its time to change. Can you actually buy uprated cambelts?

You can buy a Group N cambelt for £70, but not certain what's different from standard and if it's any better

Falkland Performance in Glenrothes stock them (not very handy for you I know), but that's where I saw them

Cheers

£70 for a group N!!! standard one from Subaru is £110 IIRC..!

everyone says to only use the Subaru one... I suppose it is a big bill if it snaps.. are you sure the group N ones are not suppose to ne changed more often though?
Cannot see a Group N car lasting to 45,000miles or 3years etc..

Group N also meaning standard ??
I highly doubt that if there is an uprated belt available, that it is actually uprated. Possibly only called that to make people buy it.
I use Gates.

Sorry if any of that info is mis-leading but I am only going with what is advertised on Falkland's (discount to SIDC owners) brochure

Gates manufacture the belts for Subaru (along with alot of other car manufactures).

They are identical belts to the dealer supplied ones, except they have got "Subaru" written on them, but they have every other mark.

Expect to pay about 60'ish quid (cant remember to be exact) for one from most factors.

I have one you can have for 50 quid if you want, brand new, boxed.

As Above, most motor factors should be able to supply them. Gates 5384XS.
Though, last time I paid about £70 or so. Any less, and you are doing well.
Not sure if they do manufacture them for Subaru, but they do supply a lot of other original manufacturers.

Thanks for the offer but got another 30k before next change (another year then).

Just hate paying Subaru 110pound for as bit of rubber... taking the pee imho...

60-70 is still a lot but more reasonable.. I have paid 15quid for original cambelts before in a similar way (may have been a Gates one and I didn;t know it) the subaru one maybe twice as long but still not worth all the extra..

Thanks for the info

used a pattern DAYCO belt on my old sti iii and within 3 months it had jumped 2 teeth, fortunately no damage,SAS performance insisted they fit genuine Subaru belt.Result= no problems for next 16,000 miles.I know it is not always the case but this time go for the real Mccoy.
