Ive got a 297BHP Type RA(close ratio gearbox), when I give it some welly the the engine sounds as if the clutch is slipping after gear change, is this normal or is it realy slipping, and if it is is the answer a heavy duty/racing clutch the best option?

you say that you can hear it, do you mean that the revs raise but the car doesnt pull??
Is the clutch fully released when you apply the throttle again??
If you use too much throttle before you fully release the clutch pedal a std clutch will slip..

tweenierob,

I haven`t looked at the rev counter while giving it the boot too busy watching the road, but it sure seems as though the clutch is slipping, and no Im not giving revs before changing gear.

Best way to tell is to take the car to a hill, select a highish gear, 4th probably, at about 2000rpm then floor the throttle. The clutch (if it is knacked) will probably slip when the revs hit 3k-3.5k. (ie. when the torque rises).

Cool

If you clutch is en route to the bin it`s easy to tell as when the load increases the engine revs harder but the speed doesn`t climb in proportion. Do the uphill thing and plant it BTW when my last clutch went it took 4 days between "hmm is that slipping" to " boy your lucky you got here with that"

I got almost 1000 miles from my slipping clutch. I Noticed it slipping about a month ago and just got it replaced 2 days ago.

Cool

Marty,

It depends largely on what kind of use the car gets, what gearing it has and what sort of figures the cars running

Well i had a return trip to scotland with a slipping clutch in there so i was a little cautious with it. Due to the fact that most garages were shut over Xmas/New year, i didn't want to end up stranded at my moms house A fate worse than death

Tried the hill, no problem, still not convinced its not slipping, could the springs be too weak?
