Hi Guy's,

I have had a little search around but could'nt really find the answer to my question so sorry if this has been asked to death,

I have just bought a 1993 WRX Import, it's standard except from a full magnex system, de-cat, and HKS Induction, i was just wondering what you scooby guru's would advise for the next mod,

I was thinking of upping boost via a dawes or would it be more worth while getting some sort of piggy back ecu, i don't really wan't to get it re-mapped so is there any ECU'S/Chips out there that are just a simple plug and play setup....

Also what is the max SAFE boost that i could run on the Import, without having det probs etc...

Any info much appriciated,

Cheers,

John.

hi john, i have a 94wrx and am in the same boat.

go for a new plug in module (plugs in ecu via a 28 pin socket) this is what i'm doing, i tried the dawes route but this way is much better, also not as dear as you'd think.

mine should be coming soon and and am told it will ; map my car to run uk fuel safely, remove my top speed limiter, control the standard solenoid to produce 1.1bar boost.

This i reckon is your answer mate.

James

I've had one fitted......big difference....Car more responsive, a lot quicker, and you can hear the turbo again!! You could also run one of these with a Dawes which would give you quicker turbo spool up and it's adjustable. The guys who run Scoobyecu are more than helpful and will give you the right advice about performance levels, however you may wish to buy some monitoring devices such as a Knocklink and Lamdalink to check for det and fuel/air mixtures. 1.1 bar is approximately what the remap will run which should be o.k. If you look at the thread titled "DIY ECU REMAP" this will give you an idea.

Just get an ECU from a 260 BHP MY95/96 car. Z4 code.

Plugs straight in and it's much smoother.

£100 usually...

Would have to agree with Dave on this. The remap will help with uk fuel, will take into account any mods ie exhaust, filter etc, is switchable if wired (wife mode or quick mode), and as Dave says is generally more refined than a standard Z4, and is cheaper!!!
To be honest I would order one now mate, it's easily the best thing I have purchased so far, and puts the biggest smile on your face!! Scott T fitted mine, however both himself and Dave were excellent in advice and service.....well recommended.

Your ECU will have to have a 28 pin adaptor fitted to take the eproms. If you are good with a solder sucker/electronics it's easy, however if not I'm sure that Dave or Scott will fit one for you for a small charge.....

I have 94 WRW.
Firstly I would go for brakes as this is the main weak point. The better the brakes the faster the car. So a secondhad set of Sti 4pots with say pagid siscs and pads would be the first.

Second induction. This seems to be sorted. If not get the front cat replaced with a new down pipe. It will get through the MOT like this if you take it to the right place.

Get 17' alloys on for road use with F1 tyres on as this will greatly improve the car. Many people swear by the Bumpstear mod wich cuts out understeer (Powerstation Cheltenham). I currently do not have this, so can't comment. At least get 4 wheel alignment set up.

I would save some money for repairs as at 93/94 age - coolant hoses, water pumps, sensors etc - Stuff life that goes wrong and needs replacing.

Uping the boost would be someway down the list. If you use Dawes combine with a boost gauge. More peeps with UK cars use Dawes.

Hope this helps
Best wishes
Steve

Dave R...

Agreee Z4 map from a 95WRX is one of the better ones... and far better than the 93/94 WRX's. Also runs 12.7psi instead of 11.5psi.

It's also the base map that seems to be used by alot of the Japaneses tuning firms.

P.S I doubt your ECU will have the socket fitted (V7 & 7D seem to be the only ones that have). It will have the PCB loacation but it will be blank with the holes filled with solder.
