Question

Hello i have just bought a P1 and i do want to heavily modify the engine performance. Throughout 2003 i will have around £30k to spend on the engine but i will admit i am a muppet where it gets technical. Hey i only drive it i don't know what makes it work. So i don't know where to start on the engine upgrades what are your ideas. I already have the prodrive upgrade backbox on it. There are some 18" wheels and eagle f1 dsv3 tyres coming as are some ap racing 6 pot calipers 330mm cross drilled vented discs. Help me please.

if you have spent all that money on a P1 to start with and are putting serious corners on, as well as hefty brakes(which ain't cheap) AND you have another £30K to spend on engine mods, why the **** didnt ya buy a good car in the first place. don't get me wrong i luv my scoob but you can buy alot of car for £60K.

just my 2p worth

cheers

Cool

i have a p1 and love it but with a budget of 60k there are a lot better cars.imho the scoob is a point to point car most problems occur when u start modding and thinking u can do 150mph and stay with the big boys.
for that kind of money buy a skyline/noble/supra(hell of a lot less dosh).
seeing as u have got the p1 u can do a hell of a lot and it wont take 30k
speak to mark at lateral performance he should be able to empty ur wallet

its because i love the scooby and am fanatical about the world rally championship and have always wanted a car from that pedigree. A skyline or supra etc would be nice but the insurance is too high to start with before you even begin modifying. Plus i have just come a pug 206 xsi and have really only just got the money and job to start spending serious money on my hobby of cars. As for the Evo i drove the Evo VI makinen edition the same day and before i drove the P1. while i did think it was an awesome car i actually preferred the P1. Both dealers took the cars out and thrashed as they knew i was looking for speed and handling and they wanted to show me what each car could do. And for me the P1 came on top for me. as for insurance for modifying my scoob that is no problem. but insurance companies don't want to touch me with a skyline or 3.0 twin turbo supra except with big bucks.

If for some reason I decided to spend £30k on modding my car I would also speak to Mark

He would probably set you up with a nice 2.5 litre block, very large Garrett turbo, decent front mounted intercooler, injectors - probably 8 moderate rather than 4 massive to give good granularity, Pectel ECU, Bosch motorsport fuel pump with a feeder pump, water injection, gearbox rebuild with a good clutch. You will probably need some coilover suspension and a veritable army of braces to hold the chassis together, and will need to look at the diffs since they will be under severe strain.

I personally would buy a used 911 Turbo and be done with it. It will hold its value much better!

Thanks for all your help and advice i will definitely be using it. As for the porsche well they are very nice but again noone will insure me under the age of 25 unless for big bucks. Plus i haven't seen a porsche in the wrc recently lol.

The most sympathetic insurer I have found for mods (you just tell them you've done everything and they add £25) don't insure for under 30s very often (although I am 28) and not at all for under 25. A loaded premium because of modifications could get it very expensive and you tend to scare off insurers once you get over +20% power - most will not touch you with a barge pole.

A lot of bolt on bits & bobs there

I still echo the fact that speak to Mark, he has been there & done it, doing it again & again

JUN stuff IMHO is good but VERY expensive - I believe there are better alternatives for less cost out there which is why I say the above...

give him a shout on 0208 420 5444

It all boils down to how far you want to go...
