I've picked up the above problem of late.
If I floor it in 2nd through to 5th gear it tends to "splutter" before picking up (80% of the time). It's as if it gets the go faster signal, cuts back, goes faster, etc. If I gradually ease on the power it's not as noticable.

Any ideas besides keeping the revs up all the time?

Cool

Hmm..sunny where you are!

You need to check:

SparkPlugs, Coil Packs, HT leads (if you have them), MAF sensor and possibly your lambda sensor (unlikely).
As I think you said your car is pretty new, your most likely candidate is the MAF sensor, as on the later models this sensor is VERY fragile, and can fail if you so much as vibrate it too much. If you have fited an induction kit, or a fluid based air-filter these can damage them as well, on the late models.

If it ISN'T your MAF, then I would suggest you check your electrics: Sparks, coils and HT leads.

my MY01 has a similar problem - most noticeable when on half throttle in 3rd or 4th, then boot it - seems to stutter, clear then go. its as if the turbo is a bit 'jerky', and also seems to get 'jerky' when lifting off suddenly.

mentioned this at the recent 20,000m service, and aparently 'all systems checked out okay'.

would it be worth pursuing the MAF query with the dealer?

incidentally, had a couple of recent occasions where it was difficult to start the car, when stood for a couple of hours - any one think this is related, or just coincidence?

Thanks for the input. If it's the MAF would the problem come and go? Over the last two days the problem seems to have gone away. This morning it's a little problematic again but barely discernable.

BTW, it does have an induction kit.

Andy, don't see how the two could be connected (logically at least), but anythings possible.

See my comments under thred entitled 'misfire any ideas'
If the MAF sensor is the same thing as the Air Mass Sensor on MY2000 I would defo check it out.
Good luck.
