I have a '92 Imported WRX and I am getting a whining noise which I think is something to do with the P/S. Even in a straight line it whines but gets worse when I turn. Is this the pump or has anyone had a similar problem?

 

Try taking the cap off the power steering reservoir (yellow or black cap), with the engine running and turn the steering wheel from left to right full lock, and if the level looks low top it up while doing this..!!

I will try but the level looks OK when the engine is off. Steering is OK but whines as soon as I start turning the wheel. Could it be an air lock?? If so, how do I sort it?

 

Fill it up, trust me, you'll be surprised with how much she'll swallow.

 

You sort the air lock using the method i gave above..! this will bleed some air from the system..
