car has started stalling while cold
#1
I've just had the turbo, power steering gasket and radiator header tank replaced and fitted a jap innovations back box. Now the car stalls when i start it from cold. It was running quite rough when cold before but not this bad.
I've done the Earth mod and it helped a lot for the first week of so but then things just got worse than they were to start with.
On the first turn of the key it fires up without any problem but the revs just drop right away and the car cuts out.
If i restart it it'll usually keep running with the revs about 1200-1500. If i blip the throttle the revs rise then drop down to below 500 and the car cuts out again. I read the 'rough running when cold' thread but this seems a lot worse. I have to let the car tick over for about 5 minutes before pulling away other wise it stalls as soon as i stop. The only way i can get it to not stall is if i let the revs drop relly slowly (engine braking) on the approach to junctions.
Any ideas?? I'm going to reset the ecu tonight to see if it helps.

I've had a search though for similar probs. Most seem to point to either the BOV, Lambda sensor, MAF or the Idle Control Sensor. The first three generally seem to affect warm engines so i'm gonna try cleaning the ICS with carb cleaner first (this apparently gums up on older cars?). Should the carb cleaner just be sprayed in the main intake pipe or is there a seperate pipe for it idle control sensor?

It's an MY94 WRX wagon. I've read that the idle control sensor can be cleaned by running the engine at 2000rpm and spraying the carb cleaner into the intake to the ICS. Is that how you cleaned yours? I don't wanna end up with more broken bits than i started with.
