Jangling sound from under car, help!
#1
Just noticed a strange sound under my car whilst driving along in one of my "no stereo" moments. Basically its slower or faster depending on car speed and is quite loud, it sounds almost as if there is a chain under my car running along the ground every 2 seconds, as I speed up this changes to every 1 second and so on, the only word to describe it is a "jangling" sound.
I'm hoping someone has had a similar thing and knows exactly what it is, i've looked under the car and everything seems secure. If the noise was more of a scraping sound then i would guess it to be a warped disc or something due to it changing speed with the car.
Ideas anyone, gonna have a look tomorrow when its light again.
Its a MY99 UK Turbo but i dont reckon that would make much difference

You may find you have inadvertently run over your local rap star/ knuckle dragger and that it is his chains/bangles/gold teeth that are dragging.
If, when it is light again, you find this to be the case, then all I can say is well done.
No tunes any more, can't hear the words, do these people even know what a melody is....mumble , mumble..etc etc......

worth a look but i'd expect that to still make a noise when stationary and revving, but this literally happens when i'm moving, to test if it was engine speed related i went down a quiet straight road and dipped and took it out of gear and let the engine idle, as i rolled losing speed the noise slowed down, quite weird, gonna have another look tomorrow and then down to a garage to have it put up in the air for closer inspection, hopefully whatever it is, is either just loose and/or warrantied!

I had a light metallic scraping coming from under my car when i first bought it. Seemed to come from under the fans, maybe a little more to the passenger side. It happened both in and out of gear, clutch in or out, and was speed related. It also stopped when the car was stationary.
By the time i got under the car to have a look (a few weeks later) the noise had stopped. I put it down to the car being stationary in the garage for a while before i bought it. Maybe just some dirt or rust on a shaft or something. Haven't had any more noise or trouble since then.

could it still be the heat sheilds if it its not engine speed related?
Also its done about 7.5k since I bought it so I doubt its anything to do with it standing, it wasnt there when i bought it, its just appeared I think.
