If it has rained heavily or it is very damp, although not consistantly it feel like it is running on 3 cylinders until warmed up..

It drives like there is no power so you put your foot down more and still nothing and then everything happens...

Let the car warm up and runs fine.. there is smoke from the back but no more than when it is cold and damp I think anyway, altohugh I am slightly concerned it might be a head gasket.. but no evidence of water loss or water in oil or oil in water at the moment.

I shall clean all the sensors when I get the chance but it runs perfectly when warm.. so might be related to the water temp sensor but it doesn't do it all the time and not nessaraly when cold, just damp.. so might be coil packs, or plugs?
Plugs have gone 19,000miles and coil packs 109,000miles..

Anyway I am waffling now.. anyone had / got similar problem?

Car is MY96 UK Turbo wagon.. it was doing it more when I was not driving it everyday and leaving it for a week, so I assumed it had damp getting in somewhere, but now driving it everyday and it is doing it some days but usually okay.

had simular problem, turned out to be one of the coil packs, did it all the time when it finally gave up, they say coil packs should be changed at 60.000 miles anyway, hope you solve the problem PETE

It is certainly a lot cheaper than the originals. Should be under £100 including all postage/duty etc.
Just get a set of leads and you are flying.

Cheers Stevie..

I have suspected the coil packs were dying (thread in here previously) for month but they have not cause a real problem yet that remains there all the time..

Sounds like I need to bite the bullet and get a set..

Right anyone know what I want exactly.. I understand the coil leads are for a MY98? and available from Halfords?

There was a group buy on the coils.. I'll do a search at least it might get me a supplier and the correct Bosch coil number etc

Cheers

I found the faulty one by disconnecting each lead one by one and starting engine to listen if there was any difference, its a bit tough getting at the cables, but it helps to narrow the problem down,I still changed all the coils as graham goode £200 for four or £60 each PETE

Cheers Stevie..

Can I just clarify how do you pay John?

Do you have to post him a cheque to Aus?

I shall email him.

Many thanks

Okay much happier about doing that.

Have emailed him.. he is probably in bed now having already lived today already..

Tell me about it.. I had a shock last month as I was late paying (forgot) and the demanded the lot immediately!!.. I shat myself..
spoke to them and they were happy for me to send about what I normally do and it was an automatic thing sent out because I had not paid..

Mind you I am much better than I used to be.
