Dawes is it safe
#1
I have read a few threads in the last week or so about the Dawes device not being safe is this right,as I am very interested in fitting the Dawes to my 1996 WRX wagon.I dont have a boost gauge but intended to keep the Dawes at the factory setting(1 BAR),I have a full SS system and ITG panel filter.

I've had a DAWES device fitted to my MY97 for 3 months. Never had any trouble with it what so ever. The car runs great with it, no idle problems. I've set mine up to run at 16psi peak (5th WOT) dropping to 15psi held.
I wouldn't recommend fitting one without a boost gauge though and I believe the factory setting is much much lower than 1 bar. I seem to remember putting mine on and only getting 8psi in 5th.

Dawes is excellent.
If you still have the standard ECU, then you should slam into the fuel-cut limit before you get silly boost.
STRONGLY recommend a boost guage.
If you are planning to go above normal boost you MUST MUST MUST get an AFR and Knockling at the very least.
Dawes is excellent at what it does, but it is a powerful tool in the hands of the uninititaed.

I wouldn't advise it on an import. Has been done to death previously, some disagree, the WRX map may not be 100 RON after all, but it is not a risk free ticket to big power without worry on an import IMHO. I would say that because I map ECUs, but I can't map yours and I do recommend them for the model years I can remap, with or without a remap
