MY03 - improvements transferrable to MY01?
#1
Quite possibly a stupid question (good at those...), but, I was speculating whether any of the mods to the MY03 that supposedly benefit performance are transferrable to the MY01?
For example, I heard that the MY03 WRX benefits from a new exhaust manifold - any chance this part would fit an MY01?
Also, the STi gets a different downpipe I think (or is that the new UK STI PPP?) - I'd love to add an approved downpipe to my already PPP'd MY01 without blowing the warranty...
Sorry if I've just embarrassed myself again... :-)
Cheers,
Gareth

Had wondered the exact same thing myself, but thinking about it:
I believe the WRX benefits from a new exhaust manifold, which gives improved throttle response, plus IIRC +8bhp. Various people do replacement manifolds for the bugeye, typically in the £800-£1k range (and power engineering claim a lot more power increae, for example). I doubt subaru will sell the MY03 one cheaper than that, and it may be nearly as costly as the PPP which keeps the warranty and gives much bigger gains. Less than 1bhp per £100 doesn't seem like a super value mod. All IMHO, of course.
You may find that all they have done is effectively ported the headers on the old manifold, which a DIYer can do for only a few hours work.
Not sure where things will stand from a warranty point of view fitting 03 parts to 02 cars.
I might be wrong, but I think the downpipe mod you talk about on the STi is the sports cat one in the PPP.
Don't know if that helps at all?
