Does this affect any hoses and the like ?

I read one thread a couple of months back that someone had theirs steam cleaned and it removed some sort of protective coating on the hoses and caused them to deteriotate ???

Just want to remove some grime off the engine and restore to original sparkle.

bit of general advice for all cars

make sure all your electrics are water tight and make sure you dont get water into your inlet system (or as one local farmer did squirt it down the air intake for the heater)

seriously though watch out for your intake, it doesnt take much water if it gets far enough to do damage. also multiplug connectors are very vulnerable to steam cleaning and finally beware if you have an alarm under the bonnet most of the aftermarket ones have warnings about steam cleaning

If you have to do it get the car/engine hot first!
and cover any induction kit and intercooler first.

Have you seen what a pressure hose does to it!!!!!!!

You know haw the fins get bent by air and flys. Imagine what high pressure water will do. (you can write your name on it)
Cover it with rigid plastic or stiff card in a plastic bag.
Note: I have never jet/steam cleaned my engine for fear of damage!

Just to back up what's already been said, don't get too close with the lance especially near the intercooler, the only thing i covered up was my alarm using a plastic bag, i always leave the engine running and have never had a problem.
