Which Jammer & Detector ?
#1
Following a run in with a couple of camera vans this weekend, I think it's time to invest in a jammer and camera detector.
Could anyone recommend the best combination & where to purchase them ?
I'm aware of the legal issues re the jammer, but that's a risk I'm happy to take.
Thanks
Nils

I would say dont waste your money, every independant test I have read on these things sayes they are no good, that they only start to shout when its too late to slow down cos they got you anyway! The only thing worth having is that gadget with all Gatso locations loaded into it from a CD, cant remember the name unfortunately, but i think it works with a GPS system to tell the system where your car is, then it alerts you if you are nearing a Gatso.

Well, I'd have to disagree with the 'too late' thing, unless you're in a jet at the time. I have a (can't remember the make ) 550 & I'd say, for ordinary gatsos, you get about 500m. On the M25 style variable speed detector jobbies, at least a km. The biggest problem with these things is that they detect too far - many roads the thing is just beeping permanently! Still, probably a good idea to take it slow, then .
In short, I'd recommend it - that is if they still make it
Can't help you with the jammers, though. I haven't gone that far! The only the laser I've ever picked up though was from a helicopter chasing 3 cars (they must have been doing 150 in heavy traffic on the M4 ) & I don't think it's possible to do much about helicopters anyway

I have a Bel550Euro (£320) for radar and laser and an Origin Blue I (GPS, £400) for other types of trap.
The Bel550 gives about 400 yards for fixed Gatsos and more for mobile units depending on conditions! Should be enough to slow down. It also picks up laser guns but you have to be quick to react so a laser jammer may be a better option.
The Origin Blue has a database of all fixed cameras of all types in it (including those in semi permament road work, M11, M20, etc). All you do is plug it into the modem you get with it and it downloads the updated database from a 0845 number in 2-3mins.
There is another GPS system called Road Angel which I believe is quite good and very similar. They also do a GPS and radar detector all in one (£699ish) but don't know if the radar detector part of it is as good as the Bel550!
I got both my units from http://www.networxautomotive.com/ , mention Scoobynet and they may give a discount. I usually speak to David Baxter!

There is also the Road Angel, I have one fitted its GPS and works very well. You can set the warning distance yourself, it also has the automatic programme which warns you. the faster your going the earlier it warns you. Damm clever

Nothing will ever give to time to slow down when hit by a laser - they measure instananeously. You might pick up reflections though (thinking about it, this has happened to me once) which does let you know in advance, if you're lucky. This is why the jammers are needed for laser - they block it

I have fitted a laser 'blinder' to my my01 either side of reg plate ,did a little test with a new police laser speed gun complete with red dot for accurate target spotting on every run blinder caused laser to show 'error' to operator. V impressed with the results.
