i want to replace my air filter on y reg P1. However i do not want to bugger my maf. What are the main differences between panel and a cone, ive had a few cones before and they are quite noisy which i dont mind, i suspect the panels are quiet? Is there any power to be gained from either and will my car run leaner or richer?
think that about covers it!

The MAF is generally quite fragile, so a cone filter usually generates a bit more vibration and turbulence which can damage it.
I've got an ITG panel filter and have no problems.
I've removed the resonator from the airbox so it feeds air from the wing.

so get a panel filter and keep resonator in then? Would i be running leaner/any increase in noise?

Slight increase in noise, more on cold days, how it effects the performance of the car is very debatable, some say yes some say no and some say it completely ba!!s things up. Also if the ITG panel filter isn't installed correctly it can contaminate your airways with its oil. Of course some tuners swear by this filter, so its how it works for you really.

I will try to get the NEW K+N induction kit fitted to a friends MY01 posted on here so you can see what the latest offering shortly to hit the UK from the US is like. His car is the development car for K+N and he has the inner wing mounted induction kit in rather fetching chrome with blue Samco hoses (Only 1 in the UK).
They had his car for 2 days to test which cone was correct for all various speeds and conditions.
He swears by it and it looks nice and shiny under his bonnet.
They are trying to get it to market for around £100 i believe.
