What happens when you mis-shift a gear ?

What happens if you accidently go from 3rd to 2nd at 85 mph ?
I know in extremis the valves will bounce and may go out of sync. But can any other damage occur like clutch or transmission damage ?

p.s.
The reason I ask is I did this but dumped the clutch when I realised what I had done, but now the clutch makes a knock when it engages (only when engine running) but this may have been there all along, I am normally paranoid.
