MY02 WRX - Stiff throttle!
#1
OK my WRX has done a whopping 657 miles and as such I have always kept the revs below 4 thousand and not laboured the engine. Occasionally I blip the thottle up to 4 - 4.5k revs and quite often the results are very different. The accelerator seems really stiff! and takes a lot of force to plant it down. Sometimes you feel the car respond immediately and the turbo start to go (at which point I change gear as do not want to go above 4k revs) BUT mostly the car seems completely unresponsive. In fact I took it to 5k revs earlier and still did not feel the turbo really kick. WTF is going on!??....This is supposed to be a 200bhp+ car ffs! Why does the throttle feel so heavy and unresponsive most of the time and yet sometimes the car feels 'nippy' and more torquey on others.
I know the car is 'running-in' - but why is the performance so variable and can I expect the car to run better after the first 1k mile service and the throttle not to feel so heavy and sticky.
Cheers

I didn't suffer the stiff throttle problems you describe, but my MY02 felt sluggish/unresponsive/jerky (at times) for the first 1000 miles. In fact it has only just really started to feel brisk at 7000 miles. I am hoping it will get even looser and therefore better. Stepping from a 33,000 mile MY99 to this 5 months ago was a complete shock to the system I can tell you. Like you say, it doesn't feel like a 200+ bhp car. Don't worry it WILL get better.

I found a big difference in the performance after the 1K service, as others have said it gets quicker as the mileage increases. The car in general does not feel that quick but a glance at the speedo usually reasures me
