Could anyone please explain to me what a hybrid turbo is. What pros or cons does it have over the normal ones.
The reason for the interrest is the following:
I own an my00 with the following mods:
GEMS ECU
FMIC
induction kit
full decat exhaust
uprated fuel pump
TD05 turbo
I am running 1.4bars of boost settles on 1.3
I recently had the turbo changed from the original TD04
which I ran on 1.4 settled on 1.0.
My problem with the TD05 is that however we map the ECU, I get full boost at near 4000 rpm, which really sucks. Even though the car appears to be stronger, the acceleration is worse 0-60, above that its much better though. Does anyone have any idea on what I could do or get, to solve this problem?
I even changed the gearing of the diffs to 4.444, and with this setup the car accelerates as it had with the TD04.
Your help is much appreciated

Hybrid turbo is a mix of two turbo's eg. you may want the low inertia of one and the high airflow characteristics of another. Has your ECU been mapped to take the new turbo (and other mods) into account?

You need to check how much of the lag is due to the turbo, and how much, is due to the Gems map.
To find out just what the turbo is capable of, you need to wire the wastegate shut, and VERY carefully drive the car at low RPM's, to see how it spools up.
If it spools up more quickly, then there is either an issue with your actuator, or the Gems map. If not, then it's down to the turbo, exhaust, or intake system.
Mark.

It's unlikely that the TD05 is holding you back, on a typical UK install this turbo will make full boost by 3000 rpm, max torque around 4500rpm and max power at 6000 rpm. Very few hybrids available will improve on this spool up, most hybrids aim for more power with a similar spool to standard.
What is your current power output ?
