Bit confused. MY02 WRX from Belgium.
Think that Euro cars start life with proper oil, not the running in oil of UK cars? Therefore that 1000mile service is optional.
Service record has no space for 1000 mile stamp (for Impreza anyway).
BUT the Owner's Manual has oil and filter change highlighted beneath the 1000mile column in the service schedule (but may apply to all Imprezas?).
Anyone know whether 1000 mile service is essential? I will probably get it done for peace of mind, both mechanical sympathy and warranty wise.

The 1k service is normally due to the fact that the oil in there is thinner on average than the oils it suppose to run, this aids in bedding the engine in and giving it more wear to sort out any unsmooth surfaces.
Basically the oil you have in at the moment will probably have small filings of alloy or iron in it, now if you want to run your engine for the next 9k miles with bits of metal floating around your engine then please do so but myself, personally, would pay the 90 quid to get the oil changed!
