Unhappy

Hi all,

I have a MY01 Turbo and the clutch is doing my nut in. I have done 28000miles and when its cold it judders like mad, also when its very hot (traffic jams/high usage) there is a strange high pitched "oooooooohhhh" noise when I lift the clutch pedal, it also feels like i'm riding the clutch, sorry about the description but its the best I can do in writing.

I took it to my local dealer who are not helpful at the best of times to be told I would have to guarantee them payment to remove the gearbox as Subaru very rarely uphold warranty on clutches.

Is this correct and is it normal for Impreza clutches to be like this.

Any advise would be appreciated.

Think your dealer is just trying to fob you off.

Do a search and I think you'll find that there are some guys on here on their third (warranty) clutch. So don't accept it, get it sorted.

I've had exactly what you describe twice, once with original clutch and then again with its replacement. The latter occurred only 2 months ago and dealer didn't want to replace. I explained that it was a company car and I might buy it. At this they changed there mind and decided that would be good to replace it on the company. They wouldn't do it on Warranty although I didn't push very hard.
Have now got the uprated item which, so far is fine. I believe the noise is the release bearing on its way out.

Mine is MY99

My first replacement was done on warranty. They wouldn't cover the judder but, when I demonstrated the noise to them they agreed this wasn't normal. Release bearing shouldnt go after only 1 year !

Nichop,

The service manager with this local dealer came out with me in the car to check for another fault and when I mentioned the clutch he basically told me they were not interested unless I would guarantee payment which I think is very poor as the car is 1 year old today.

Had a clutch replaced on warranty on my P1 at about 10000 miles due to excessive judder and its back again at the moment as the car is due for its 27500 servive and there is also the groan noise when releasing the clutch when the car is warm but its not a constant groan. Will be pointing out the problem again on the car and looking for replacememt. This must be a recognised fault with the impreza family of cars and as such what is being done about?
Clutches should be able to cope and if not should'nt uprated parts be fitted on warranty?
The wifes Vectra 2000sri took 100000 miles of driving and some real hard thrashing by me and the car has gone back to the lease company after 3 years on the original clutch!!!!!!
My P1 is in need of its 2nd clutch after 27000?????
I know the power and the drive system take its toll on the cluctch but knowing this a more meaty item should surely be fitted.

Thanks for that Zippy

Could,nt agree move teambwr47, I think a little more should be done with regards to customer satisfaction, still dont understand how Subaru won JD Power survey when the dealerships are a nightmare.

Thanks all

Is there anyway to report this dealer to Subaru ? They are way way way off the mark with there attitude. Time to get hard with them or go elsewhere. If its something that can be attributed to wear and tear - fine. This is not !

Nichop,

Incidentally, I have been waiting for a set of WRX floor mats for the past 3-4 months, these I have been told are on backorder with no delivery date. They should be under warranty as this is the 3rd set I'm on and I just think there taking the pi$$.

I had words with IM about Monks Heath and there attitude, when they found out my car was a parrallel import they didnt want to know.
One other bbs member refered to them as Champagne drinkers with lemonade money.(Quality)
Let your feet do the talking and take your business elsewhere, trip to Mainland i think.

Al,2 other people i know have had issues with the said dealer in regard to the WRX mats, 1 has had his changed 3 times (with delays)and the other has had Autostyle ones fitted.Try ringing as Mr Smith and order a set of mats and i bet they turn up in 2-3 days then walk in as Mr Smith and claim your warranty mats, they dont give a sh*t because its a warranty claim and there isnt any labour charges for them in it.Play them at their own game.
