After hours of cleaning the scooby I took her for a wee drive and opened her up a few times. I noticed after an 'incident' with a Jag XJS that the car seemed noticeably slower and I did a couple of 2nd and 3rd gear fully throttle runs and only got 1.0 bar (peak) of boost. When I got the car from autoscooby it was 1.1 bar and I haven't touched a thing? What could cause this, should I be worried?
The mats I inherited are a little on the large side so I'll check tomorrow and make sure they aren't fouling the accelerator

If the Dawes is newly installed then I have read before that it can need tightening during the first few weeks (seems the spring inside loosens a bit). I was surprised though that mine didn't need it (John did comment though that it was due to his installation ).
Try turning the Dawes half a turn and see if the boost goes back up.
Edited to say - remember to test it with WOT in 4th/5th - which is where the peak boost reads.
Rich.

Cheers Richard,
I'm reluctant to go and tighten it until I've established that that is the cause. If it something else and I keep adjusting it to keep the boost up eventually something will go pear shaped.

Friday, MY99, DBM, with scoobysport back box, dawes (now running at 1.0 bar!!!!) and its a 4 door.
Took scott out in it the other day and he sh@t it, was clinging on to the grab handle with one hand and the dash with the other
I probably will go the TEC route, I'm a little uncomfortable about the dawes without about 4 million gauges to watch what is going on and to buy nice looking gauges and pods is about as much as TEC3 anyway!

Check it in top gear during a hard drive on a cold day. In a low gear on a hot day if you just boot it without the turbo being really hot it will boost less. Boost is a chaotic process to control. Your fuel cut presently limits you going too high.

it is probably just the warm weather we are having just now,for us scot's to get a spell as long as this is very unusual
I noticed over the weekend that my tek3 car had lost a few psi, this was one of the reasons I got rid of the dawes as I wanted a safety margin on hot days.my dawes never lost as much as yours but I only had mine on during the winter.I would not touch anything for now,if on a colder day,or a damp night it is still lower then adjust but in the warm weather just leave it.

If you hit the fuel cut would that damage the engine?
I did a bit of testing this morning and was able to hit 1.1bar again in most of the gears. However, in 3rd it hit 1.1 and then as the revs increased dropped quickly to 0.9. I was sure that it held 1.1 all the way to high revs before but I can only assume that this assumption was wrong. In the first 24 hours I didn't look at the boost gauge for more than a glace (to scared by the acceleration) so it probably was dropping back. Also, it makes sense that it would drop back at higher revs for engine protection reasons.
John, I'm due to go on holiday soon up north for 3 weeks and will be out of contact with scoobynet, decent garages, etc. Would it be possible to swing by your place sometime so you can have a look at the car and confirm that the current settings, etc are safe?

Your car is fine running the boost you are suggesting 1.0 to 1.1 bar is ideal and I don't think it needs to be looked at presently.
Note that the small turbo will never hold 1.1 bar to the red line - you must have been mistaken. You can just nudge 1 bar at 6000 RPM in ideal conditions, but 7000 RPM it is 0.8 bar typically.
Just enjoy the car and your holiday.
Fuel cut you would know about and a few times will not damage your car.

the amount of boost you run can depend on the ambient temp,my car runs 1.1 bar on cold days and 1.0 bar on hot ones!(with dawes)
don't set it to 1.1 bar on a hot day or you will hit fuel cut on a cold one
congrats on getting the scoob mate

Is it ok to run with a dawes as long as you have a boost gauge so that you can monitor some of what's going on?...I know a AFR meter would give a more complete picture... and I know that there are a few lean spots that are mapped out with ecutek's but don't want to get AFR gauge unless absolutely necessary and wondered if the maps in the standard ecu cope ok with some extra boost.
Plans to get ecutek2/3 in near future...is dawes worth it when cars been teked?
