Driving back up the M6 last night I concluded that the speedo in the scooby seems a little out. I always felt the Saxo was very accurate and the Crail terminals, etc confirmed this.
I'm showing 102mph at 4000 rpm but looking at the road it seems more like 95ish. It's a 99 with standard wheels, what you lot showing at those revs?

There was a long thread on this about a month ago because of people saying how their cars would do 160 or whatever (the P1s maybe)!
I thought the same when I came back to Subaru from a new Audi about the error.
The 99MY is geared to give 24mph/1000rpm in top so 4000rpm is a true 96 - in my car its about 101 with std wheels. It gets more inaccurate the faster you go - I'm going to a track day with radar'd max speed run soon so I should know for sure !
To be honest, I just knock 5mph off whatever motorway speed I'm doing - psychologically you're cruising at 90 but you also know that at 85 you have more chance of not getting caught for speeding !

ps
When you get used to the power, I can recommend the Tek2 for smoother power, less need to rev the ***** off it and better mpg (see other thread) Happy in the knowledge I've 250bhp with no other mods but still 26-29mpg on the motorway

When??? Already am Think I'll probably go for TEC3 at some point but its a heafty investment so I'll look into it carefully. Been in a TEC3 car before and it was fast and smooth but I don't want to spend lots of cash if the smoothness hides the power too much. We'll see.
Cheers for the gearing advice

When I was at the power engineering open day the other week, we were looking ast a custom reading that someone had taken with Delta dash. It recorded the speed of the car, and it showed that the car had gone up to 120mph. The guys at power engineering explained that the speedo would therefore be showing around 132mph. Therefore, the speedo shows around about 10% more than the true speed.

Mine's a UK00 with 215/40x17 tyres. These tyres will make the speedo under-read by 1.2% over 205/50x16 standard rubber.
According to my Road Angel which has a very accurate GPS speed readout, at 70mph on the speedo I'm actually doing only 66mph. At 130mph it reads 122mph.
I have also used an Origin Blue-i and that showed the speedo was only a couple of mph out. But they don't claim accuracy, either.
Maybe I should fit 215/45x17 tyres - 2.3% bigger than OEM. But personally, I like the extra safety margin.
Richard.
PS Road Angel is the best GPS danger-spot detector, in my view. Class bit of kit.
