got a leak somewhere...when i turn up the heater to hot the car fills with a strange vapour, like a fog and all the windows steam up..

heater matrix I hear you say

the vapour does not smell of coolant/antifreeze and I,m not losing coolant.

it is a hell of a job to get off the windows, is leaves an oily deposit.

On the heater fan housing there is a liquid (not much) that is like 3-in-one oil. Sorry best description

Or does anti freeze behave like this when it vapourises

Is it
1 brake fluid
2 clutch fluid
3 A/C fluid

just had A/C regassed but it did this beforewhen system was empty

any ideas

A/C gas will oil up your windows, sounds like one of your A/C pipes has come loose.

Cool

Probably completely wrong answer but mine (MY00GT) used to steam up all the time untill I discovered that the recirc vent was closed, opened it up and car has never steamed up since.

mine always steams up at the rear and rear door windows in wet weather, whether the heater is on fresh or recirc makes no difference.

The oily residue does sound like the A/C fluid is escaping. If you are a smoker, then please DO NOT smoke in the car and do not let any passengers do so until you have had the problem properly diagnosed and rectified. When A/C fluid vapour is drawn through cigarettes / cigars/ pipes, it can result in highly poisonous gasses which can, in extreme cases, be fatal. It could of course be something else, but rather safe than sorry....

Thanks for you replys

When they regassed A/C a die was put in so I'll take it back tomorrow to see if it is leaking. Failing that looks like the dash out and a new matrix
