Question

One week the engine ticks over at 900-1000 rpm, the next it starts fine then later on it decides it won't drop below 1300rpm. I would liken it to having the choke stuck out skightly. Does anyone else ever get this and what is the likely cause/solution?

The car has had a new O2 sensor and air flow meter in the last year.

Dave,

I'm suffering the same problem on my STi3, thought it was the idle valve but I've removed it and had a look and it seems to work ok. What model is your car and any mods ?

Mine's an STI3 too. It does sound like an idle valve problem.

Is there anyway to check the Lambda ?, I did have mine removed when I fitted the HKS downpipe, I'll maybe have a look tomorrow and see if there's anything obvious.

Dave,

I've had the idle valve acctuator off again and the valve is perfect. When I put it back together I've managed to adjust the idle down to something around 700 rpm and it seems to be staying there. I've adjusted the acctuator about as far as you can on the elongated holes to get it down to 700 rpm - not sure if this is the right way to do it but it'll be ok till I get a chance to get it looked at.

I have the same problem every now and then - modified MY94 WRX. I think it is quite common as I have met a fair few people who have it. It can be the idle sensor but mine is fine. I just live with it would be interested if anyone finds out what causes this
Cheers
Steve

Thanks Guys

Can you give me a clue whereabouts the idle valve actuator is, say, in relation to the lever where you can blip the throttle on the top of the engine. Once located, I presume I can take it off, give it a clean and put it back then adjust the tickover down a bit. Usual idle is quite high at 950-1000rpm

Dave,

There's a link on page 2 of the below thread that'll help.

Could be a dodgy Lambda sensor or a bad earth, have you got a LambdaLink or similar device fitted?

Andrew...

[edited to say: I have just noticed that you have already had the Lambda sensor replaced]
