Default GC8 Heater Core Matrix Replacement

My GC8 hates me .

Seems I need to replace the heater core on my 97 UK T2000 .... symptoms of steamed up windows and coolant loss .... TBH visibility is very bad / dangerous
Garage suggests heater matrix / core.

I need advice as I have no idea of how to replace the heater core.

1. how can I confirm diagnosis
2. Before changing core is there a hack .... other than a bypass.
3. Where can I buy a new core ..... recommendations
4. What's involved in changing out the heater core

Any other tips ............. other than throw a match in the fuel tank !

Instead of dismantling the dashboard, .... maybe I can remove the seat, cut the feed pipes and slip out the old matrix. Then refit new and connect old / new pipes with some tubing !

I had this happen on a v1 wrx 20 odd years ago. Steam in he cabin and a sweet sticky smell.
Its a dash out to replace the matrix.
I took the easy option against all the nay sayers and tipped in a can of Radweld.
Problem sorted with no bad effects what so ever to the coolant system.

Radweld IS recommended by Subaru anyway to prevent and fix delamination of the head gaskets. I've had to use it twice, once for each head, with absolutely no ill effects.
