hello and sorry
hello and sorry for first post needing help .
I have rescued a 2001 wrx pro drive from a guy who had it in a shed for 7 years and finally agreed he wont get round to sorting it , so its all been fully welded , new paint job , full service inc all belts and plugs . BUT. it has a hesitancy issue , when trying to accelerate from idle it hesitates and Kangaroos . sometimes worse than others , its got a full tank of fresh super unleaded fuel from the shell garage . no fault codes stored at all and when viewing live data ( Delphi 2017) software I cant see anything obvious wrong , also there is some hunting when idling , tried diss connecting the MAF no difference except EML light came on , reset that and re plugged it in again , cant see any hoses split . any pointers please , im a hgv diesel mech so not stupid but also I dont know these cars at all
massive thanks to all

How much boost is it making, just wondered if you had cleaned the boost controller out,
Or if its hitting boost limits and backing off,
Live data will show you the boost.
When you swapped the plugs were the the coil packs cracked?
A lot remove them wrong and when they are hard(old) they can crack easily,
If you check them under the rubber boots,
Also what plug gap were the new plugs, being a diesel fitter you dont normally gap plugs lol

being honest I didnt check gaps but I did have the issue before I changed them .
coil packs inspected as I was aware of issues all seemed good
I have just brought some gauges home to check boost pressure .
hunting and spluttering is only at low revs tho so didnt think it could be a boost issue , re boost controller No have no idea where its located either
massive thanks for the advice bud

Did you pull the maf out while it was still plugged in? If so did it stall?
IAC could be another issue
At that age I would also check the PCV valve although thats not going to cause the symptoms you have described.

He did mention the Maf in his first post, glad you read it lol

Maybe something with gearbox speedo cable/wiring or sensor?
Car will kangaroo when accelerate from idling ,but should idle fine where Your does not.
Not sure it should throw a code.

So all connected up, car on, pull the maf out of the housing/intake. Once exposed to the open the car should stall. If it doesn't then the maf sensor is either caked or broken. Apologies should have been a bit more prescriptive in my first message.
thank s
cant see anywhere to be able to read fuel pressure so unsure but when above 3k its like a rocket so I would assume these are ok
thanks
