Default Engine cranks over but will not start

Hi all, I have a 2006 Forester XE auto with an EJ204 engine. It has been running fine up until now. I started it and moved it a short distance to allow us sweep some leaves on our drive. Switched off and locked it. Four hours later I went to use the car, unlocked it and went to start it and the engine just spins over but does not fire up. I can hear the fuel pump run, pressurise and shut off. I am thinking ‘no spark’ but why? Has anybody else had this problem and what was the cause or how was it fixed?

I see you are widening the search

Previous info for MY06 H4SO instead of H4DO
H4DO ignition diags attached

Fuel filter is in the tank

Hi Don, Update…my Subaru specialist North Motor Company said ‘they don’t like being started briefly and then switched off while still cold’. The engine floods with fuel and wets the plugs making it very hard to start next time. I was due a spark plug change and so fitted a new set. Not an easy job as we all know. The engine should have started immediately but didn’t. We next tried some long cranking sessions with the accelerator pedal down to the floor to no avail. On the last session I released the accelerator pedal while still cranking and the engine caught and fired up. I then gave the car an 18 mile hard run. Problem solved. I will never do that again, always let the engine warm up before switching off. Amen

See fouling on this plug!

I have had a similar problem with a 2007 n/a Impreza, occasionally it would spin over but not fire, usually started second try, but it started to get worse, ordered a crank sensor, but putting a new battery on seems to have sorted it. just a thought.
