Subaru 09 wrx sti 330s
I am thinking of going to look at a wrx sti 330s hatchback that has done 89000 miles. It had a forged engine done 29000 miles ago and rolling road and mapped at CAT automotive last june at just under 84000 miles mark.Interior and exterior look in good condition was wondering on what your opinions are and if i have anything to worry about engine wise.It has extensive service history and turbo done by turbosystems running 341bhp.

Look for rust under the hatch on the roof seams. The fuel pipe also rusts from the filler to the tank, if you can get it up in the air. Also check the wishbone bushes, the rear one goes easily.
Who rebuilt it, as there are rebuilds and then there are **** rebuilds. Check there isn't evidence of coolant residue around the overflow, and that the coolant looks clean. Check the inside of the oil filller cap for milky deposits. Full services every 5000 miles. Good luck, great car if it has been well built

Right stan palmer ltd carlisle did the the forged engine rebuild at 62612 miles.I believe they are subaru specialists but have no clue about subarus never owned one but always wanted one.I like the thought of the 330s due to the limited numbers.

Stan palmer ltd carlisle did the forged rebuild subaru dealer. It was done at 62612 and car has 89994 miles on the clock so has done 27382 miles since rebuild.Never owned a subaru always wanted one and know nothing about forged engines etc so keep going back and forth whether to pay deposit to go view and test drive or not.If it was local to me it would be ok but it 40 miles away.Im leaning towards the 330s due to limited numbers so see it as a bit of investment and the speed even in standard form

Dealerships aren't renowned for rebuilds as they generally use standard parts, not forged, so you would need to see a receipt to check it is forged. Hatches don't really command great prices, and it would only really keep its value if it had half the mileage or less, and was pristine. But they are under appreciated and practical. But I'm biased.

Most people i have spoken too has more or less tried to talk me out of it.I keep swapping cars every year or two and want a good fast car that i want to keep next few years.Getting fed up of losing so much money each time im changing cars must be my midlife crisis.I have a range rover evoque at the minute and had an abarth competizione before it.Abarth was a laugh a minute but just too small only kept it 12 months and before that an insignia vx line estate that lasted 6 months lol

I bought mine thinking "it's rare and I'll keep it standard and for ages and it'll be worth a fortune". Then i tinkered with it then it blew up, paid a small fortune to get it forged so still standard power but forged, and I kinda got a downer with it. Stuck it up for sale, had just hit 50k miles, immaculate inside and out , and I'd only one offer and he bought it after 3months of him gathering the money. In fairness it was only listed on a local forum and Facebook marketplace but from others for sale they were struggling to sell at the money I thought mine was worth. Even forged ones. I think it the unknown of the rebuilds, and not everyone appreciates the Hatchback, I just dont think they are the investment you'd want. But then again people hated the bugeye and they're worth good money now so depends on how long u can wait . . . . . .

Cheers yes i noticed the hatchback not well liked by most i like them but wondering whether to get a 2016 wrx sti that is for sale locally.I like the look of the 330s would fit a front splitter and rear diffuser and raise rear spoiler.Love the perfomance spec of the 330s as well but not hearing people really say much about them.

A lot of that might be because only 170 odd ever made it on to UK roads and they are essentially a STi hatch with some bits. I love mine and I get asked quite often about it, in fact I sold an MX5 yesterday and the guy was asking me all about the 330 and 'would love to own one'
Unless you buy a 22b or a mint RA-R or similar they are not really an investment IMO so if you want one buy it enjoy it

Dont let what I've said put u off. Certainly buy one, just dont buy it as an investment is all !
still cool cars. I loved mine but getting it rebuilt just did something to my head. Bit like if your car was stolen but returned without a mark on it, just something in the back of my mind made me not like it. That's my problem not the cars.

Very nice same colour as one im looking at it not what you saying mate putting me off its the fact what car i get next i got to keep next 3-5 years.I bought too many cars last few years and lost money on them that i said next one i got too keep.Something in the back of my mind keeps thinking would i want to keep it.Like i said in earlier post i was looking at focus rs but brother in law just had one looked at rs3's, golf r etc.The golf r a few at work have one and the rs3 seem silly money to me with some of the mileage they have done.Saw the 330s and thought it a lot of car for not stupid money

Posted before we were informed it was you Rob. You are one of the exceptions to the rule, but I'm sure you will agree, as I qualified in my post, that there are rebuilds, and quality rebuilds. Many Subaru dealers have little Subaru experience, having only recently bought franchises.

Yes i have seen that video what a beast i think i need to have a good read up on forged engines to get my head around it.It had a power run and remap at CAT automotive 6000 miles ago must be a mild tune to 341bhp.I believe from info rob gave me the engine has potential for a lot more but to be honest the 341bhp probably enough for me

power isnt everything but its hard to live without once you have had it on tap lol ,,, the lad who brought mine waited for about 8months for me to be ready to sell it but he knew my car and wanted it so was willing to wait for it ,, and he is happy he did ,, im good friends with him now like most poeple who buy my cars lol ,,, mine didn't have the most up to date service history as I do it all myself and the owner before me lost all the engine build paperwork so not all good cars come with mega up to date paperwork and build stuff but then its about trust lol ,, some are serviced by enthusiasts like myself and are prob looked after a lot better in the long run than stuff thats just serviced when the book tells them to

I love my hatch! best car ive ever had. they do take a bit of looking after, and keeping an eye on, but if you find yourself a good garage who will look after it, youre on to a win win. my mate has an a45, and its an exceptional car and they look nice aswell, so could be a good alternative, but you pay money for them though!.
