Default Hatch steering pump?

My 08 Hatch STI has developed an occasional whine when turning the steering wheel at low speed. There's also a slight notchyness feel to the steering wheel. It doesn't feel like a UJ as it happens every few degrees. I assume the PAS pump is on the way out. The car has done 99,000 miles and I want to keep it. Where's the best source for another pump? I'm concerned about ebay quality and life expectancy of a used one. I've not called my main agent yet, they may be on lockdown.
The present one's ok at the moment so (fingers crossed) will last a little longer.
Thanks

Try replacing the o ring in the first instance, quick and easily obtainable on ebay.

What's the part number for this and I guess the system needs to be flushed?

No need for full flush of the fluid, just go lock to lock a few times once you have changed it

As P/S fluid is not in the maintenance schedule if you are having problems with the P/S system and the fluid looks "dirty", then changing it out using one of the many methods posted on this Forum and others it's a good idea.

At what sort of mileage did you have to replace the pump?

I too have replaced both and it still whines on 76k so it looks like I will be forking out for a pump.

just to drag this post from the grave , sorry. but has anybody fitted a hawkeye power steering pump to the hatch as they look identical and are easier and cheaper to come by. 🤔

I'm sure it would work, it's possible it would be a slightly different spec though, so could affect the weight of the steering a little.

When i had a later rack fitted to mine i also put a later pump, but the "mismatched" setup worked ok, steering just felt a bit heavy.

What I wouldn't recommend is getting one of the £100-150 pattern pumps that area available now, they're junk. Or at least the one I installed was. I went back to my old one once I'd rebuilt it as the 'new' one couldn't deal with sticky tyres and increased caster, it just struggled and whined and then after a bit of hard driving would overheat and the steering would get heavier. Not worth it IMO, a good used one would be a better option.
