ej20 main bearing Clearance questions
Hi everyone I'm about to start measuring the mains on my ej20 block and i am trying to understand the PDF Manual on what it say's in certain areas.....i have problems understanding the Red Dots in the Manuel...i will be following Micro Meters only because my Micro meter is in mm not inches
For Rod oil Clearance where it says 0.010 mm to 0.038 mm will this mean i can have any oil clearance between 0.010 mm to 0.038 mm....what does it mean by Limit 0.05mm ?
also where it says standard bearing thickness 1.492 - 1.501 does it mean it should be in between these numbers ?
what is the outer diameter of the crank pin ? is that where the bearing sits in ?
also why does it say undersize bearing ? from what i understand the bearing thickness is now small then standard ? why would it say u can get undersize thickness bearings when all cars always get the crankshaft grinned down after use ? crankshafts do not expand but get eaten away so when fixing the tolerance you would get a OVERSIZE bearing to close up the gap between the crankshaft journal and rod Journal ?
also i dont know what ej20 block i have, i have called up subaru and gave them my block serial number but they cant seem to find the year or make it came out of...
all i know is it might be out from a Liberty turbo model with phase 2 rear bearing thrust... pistons ring gap measure similar to some ej207 i had from the old damaged block.
so i take it there are ej20 turbo pistons....also it says ej20r on the block.
is it safe to use a ej205 factory manual and use those specs and try and bring specs to a ej205 ?
