Can you put a Std 2.0 block on a 2wd Saff Cossie Head?

Everything is from the cosworth (manifolds etc... ), just the block that's missing at the moment.
can you use a standard 2.0 block for a few weeks?.... doesn't really matter if it dies
Any help appreciated.. it's just a *very* temporary measure at the moment until a 4x4 Motor can be found

The cossie engine is basically a pinto anyway, so yes the block is the same. The crank is different, but mainly the fact that the cossie flywheel uses more fixing bolts. Are you using cossie crank/rods/pistons?? These will all fit straight into a normal 2.0 block, as will normal pinto bearings, which are a hell of a lot cheaper than cossie bearings. Tye oil pump is different, and have read that the nose of the cossie crank is supposed to be longer, but after comparing to a normal crank, I cant see the difference. The normal pinto block is also threaded for the bellhousing blots, but the cossie bellhousing bolts through the block, so you would need to drill out the holes in the block in order to bolt the gearbox to it, which would mean that you couldnt use the block for a normal sierra again.
Most injection sierras use the 205 block which at a time was regarded as the one ti have, until the 4x4. Maybe an old cortina/capri block wouldnt be as good, but still useable. Just check for the bracket for the steering, which a 205 block will have.

The 205 block would need to beused as a minimum, the earlier ones RS2000, 2.0L Capri etc are too weak. the 205 block, which was developed for the original 3 door, and became the standard has extra reinforcing ribs, both outside and internally. I would imagine an earlier block would fit, but you are likely to take the head and blower out if it lets go.
IMO the 205 block is more than adequate anyway, you don't really need a 4x4 block unless you are planning on running BIG, big power, i.e, 500+bhp.

It's only for Standard power... just to get the thing running for a month or two. the Big power will be when the 4x4 Block comes!

But as I said, I dont think the earlier ( cortina/capri etc ) block have the mounting holes for the power steering pump. 205 would be the earliest block you could use, unless you can make something up for the PAS, or just do without.
Its only the lower bellhousing holes that need drilled out. The 2 at the top of the block are tapped into the block, and bolts used from the gearbox side. Pretty much any sierra/granada injection model should do fine. They are cossie blocks anyway. Its just the internals that are different.
