limiting confusion.

limiting confusion.
HI, I have read a lot of other threads on here but nothing actually answers my exact question so ill put it perfectly here.
I have a 96 Impreza, clocks go to 160mph, reads in mph perfectly, but there is a limiter at 112 mph that I want to get rid of.
I know there are those gearboxes etc, but that would then send my speedo reading out.
In short, with the fact that it's already in mph, how do I go about removing this limiter?
Thanks in advance,
Alex.

Have you tried installing one of these?

Is this something that will kill the limiter and allow my gauges to function as normal?
Thanks.

That is the idea, yes. Had one of these installed on my GT Four ST205 by Fensport a few years ago and it removed the 180km/h (112mph) limiter alright. It should actually be the same HKS part number that applies to the Impreza too by the looks of it.

By the sounds of it you have a UK car with a z4 ecu transplant which can be done with a bit of pinout swapping. I think your best bet would be to get an ESL board fitted and then map the car. Or get someone with a knowledge of the cars to see what has actually been changed. It's not difficult when its sitting looking at you.

I don't suppose you have any info about the engine no and ecu pairing? I can try and look into it that way and if they match, can use the SLD, if they don't, ESL it is!
thanks

You cant map the limiter out of it if its a 4 plug ecu even using ESL
I suspect somebody has just fitted UK (MPH) dials to a currently limited setup.
you need the gearbox or dial convertor box this is the only way to delimit a cabled setup
well, you never actuaally remove the limiter just move it from 180 kph to 180 mph ( AS IF HUH LOL
