Default Hatchback TMIC scoop

I have been told the hatchback has an airflow problem into the TMIC. The theory is that at speed, the air rises over the bonnet and continues up over the intercooler scoop.
It sounds plausible but I wanted to see it. Not having my own wind tunnel, I mounted a vertical rod at the front of the bonnet and tied lengths of cotton to it.
Result is the theory is wrong. Air follows the curve of the bonnet in laminar flow into the scoop. In fact the opposite occurs. There's a compression effect as the air passes over the bonnet into the scoop.
I've got pics to show this and will upload later.

Well I'm glad you sorted that out.
Maybe you should add the details to your previous thread as well................

That was about 60mph. The airflow didn't seem to change characteristics with speed. At least it didn't up to 70mph and that's all I'm admitting too 😁

I think what they refer to as intercooler choke happens at speed not the speed limit. Lol. try it at 120+ and the results might be different.

Nice findings, John!

I love when someone actually tests something out rather than just relying on internet wisdom

If I do, I'm not admitting to it.
