Default Crankshaft oil seal depth?

Just popped a new front crankshaft oil seal in (not leaking, just as a precaution whilst doing other jobs) and Iv tapped it flush with the oil pump casing at the mo - just wondering if it’s a seal I can ‘hammer it all the way home’ so to speak, against the back of the oil pump - or whether it just has to be be flush with the front of the oil pump casing? Was rushing about a bit earlier so didn’t really think to measure the depth against the seal width - 2003 blob WRX btw
thanks!
