Default Cambelt trouble.

Hi all. Just about to do my cambelt kit on my 97 turbo 2000. It's a gates belt and on the front of the box it says from 98 onwards and has a diagram of the pulley layout. It shows a total of 11 items that the belt runs around, that's the four cam pulleys, crank, 3 idlers, tensioner, water pump and one other idler to the right of the tensioner as looking at the front of the engine. Now my car only has a total of 10 items. It does not have the small idler to the right of the tensioner.

Obviously this is the wrong belt then ? Too long for my car ? Did they only ad another idler after 98 ?

Cheers.

I've just checked the numbers on the old belt and the part number is different but the measurements are the same. Both are 281mm long by 30mm wide.

You guys think this will be ok ?

Oh right ok thanks mate. It's just that it showed one more idler than mine. But now I've checked the measurements and they're the same size i feel abit better. The old one is a gates too but different Parr number ???? Same size same manufacturers but change of part number ???

Thanks for the help mate.

Could be the same size but with a different profile on the cogs, or maybe even different fabric belts.

I know and I think you'll find that Mr Stockton above will definitely know that as said the belts are all basically the same.

As for the teeth profile, they look to be identical and fit just as snug as the old belt did on the pulleys.
