Is this V1 a WRX or an STI?
Saw a V1 that's a reasonable price. I don't need another, but wondering if it might be an STI as the vin code for the car is GC8B48D and the transmission code is TY752VB3CA.
Done a bit of digging and some sources state that this transmission code was only fitted to STIs and other sources claim it went in both cars as a result of the first STI just being a WRX they pulled off the line and fettled a bit.
Just wondered if anyone had a definitive way of ID'ing it. Should it have a number plaque on the opposite strut tower to the vin?

they should have additional plate as ALL early STi's simply share the same codes as equivalent WRX they were built from.........
unlike later cars that were specifically built and designated as STi's from the off
