Default Help -Won't Start

2003 Blobeye WRX

I was trying to do a head unit install and looking for power to power the signal wire for the aerial. In doing so I think I may have tripped a fuse or done something to the immobiliser/alarm.

When I insert the key and turn, I can get the ignition on, but I cannot start the car, even if I press the button on the key (single button key). When the ignition comes on I get a single beep from the alarm. Also, the key no longer locks and unlocks the car remotely- I can only lock and unlock the driver's door manually with the key blade. I only have this one key.

I'll get a new battery for the key fob just in case but any ideas to try? Any idea what the single beep means? I tried looking and can't see any relevant fuses that I might have popped but let me know if there are any suitable ones to check.

This was meant to be on the road very soon!

Thanks in advance

Edit: I haven't modified the radio harness and I've disconnected the head unit. The main 12v battery is very new and is charged.

Is the illuminated ring around the ignition barrel still lighting up?

No it doesn't light up

i tried entering my pin in the keypad and nothing changed

just tried swapping a different 15a fuse for the ignition fuse and no change although other fuses could also have gone. They look intact.

Ok so there's a little grey metal box that deals with locking the doors and that little ring, which might have been disturbed somehow.

Having said that, I've removed mine completely (as it broke) and my car still starts (but no central locking).

where did you splice the power in?

Right ok. Where's the grey box?

i was using some wire to try to give the aerial signal wire on the hu some 12v power to see if radio reception improved. Tried bridging some of the stereo pins and then tried one direct from battery to head unit.

think there was a beep and now nothing. Possibly not the best idea to do but didn't realise the security system could be affected in that way

I've just put a new battery in the key and it still won't unlock or lock the doors or start the car

This sounds a lot like your issue: https://www.scoobynet.com/lighting-and-other-electrical-14/804305-car-wont-start-and-interior-lights-clock-radio-central-locking-either.html

The box I'm talking about looks like the box in this thrwad: https://www.scoobynet.com/lighting-and-other-electrical-14/970948-dome-light-and-ignition-ring-light-constantly-on.html

The corrosion thing could definitely happen as well.. I had a car once, where the main power cable broke due to corrosion inside it's sheathing when Imoved the battery cable (funnily enough when I was installing a stereo...). That took a long time to find, and it was basically invisible from looking at the cable

I'd be surprised if it is corrosion but I'll check it tomorrow night. I didn't move any wires at all other than behind the stereo. I literally just unplugged and plugged the HU harness in and used a wire to bridge some pins. Then a wire from + terminal on the battery to one of the pins on the HU. That's it.

It seems to me that I've either fried the box or there's a fuse I've blown which I haven't tracked down.

Does anyone know any fuses that could be associated with this? I'll PM a breaker for a replacement grey box tomorrow just in case...

I'll check the lighter fuse tomorrow as well. If it doesn't work- what then?
I'll check continuity of fuses in the engine bay tomorrow as well I think.

Thanks for suggestions so far.

I only say that as I once sold a scoob
the guy had his sat Nov, phone charging all off the cig lighter
He blew the fuse and for some strange reason it stopped the car starting.

A hi should have a power Anttenna wire coming out of it .

You shouldn't of needed to mess much

I shouldn't have, but then I didn't think I was doing anything that could cause an issue.

The alarm/car beeps loudly once when i turn the key and the ignition comes on. It didn't do this before I had the issue. Is this significant?

please keep suggestions coming- I'll have as many things to try as possible after work tomorrow

Bump. Anything else to try other than new grey box and checking all fuses, plus looking for any broken wires/corrosion?

An update for anyone reading this in the future:

This has now been resolved. I bought a new multimeter as mine also broke pretty much right when I first tried to use it to diagnose this fault. I then methodically checked the continuity of every fuse. All of the ones in the passenger compartment were ok, but the top right fuse in the engine bay fuse box labelled "clock room" on the inside of the lid (15A) was blown. Replacing this restored power to everything that wasn't getting it correctly and the vehicle worked fine from then on.
