Does anybody know of any common problem that won't allow car to start? I attempt to turn the key and as the key moves from position 1 to 2 etc it makes a scary sparking noise and didn't start. Is something shorting on ignition? Start motor gone? Help!

I haven't touched the car all weekend, no mods done this year so I am confused!

does the noise come from engine bay or inside the car?
If engine bay, then suspect the coild HT towers may of cracked and you can hear the spark tracking down to earth via the casing, if inside the car, well,could possibly be an electrical fault with the ignition switch, best let a "sparky" look at it before it gets worse, or causes a fire

We had this prob. a couple of weeks ago - made one hell of a sound. Tryed various things relating to the starter motor, then tryed the obvious - turned out to be a flat battery. No warning it was going or anything - just did what you discribe above... Still, easily solved

Same thing happened to Nimbus I believe...try a search for "starting problems" - I posted under general technical - few suggestions on there if it's not the battery...

Sounded loud inside the car and hence moved it out of the garage just incase it does catch fire! Thanks for help

Ours sounded awful I was considering ringing for an extension on the credit card

Thanks Jen, will check the battery tonight then hopefully get a new battery if that is causing it. Fingers crossed I was expecting a big bill!
