Default New Maf every 3yrs?

Having a chat with someone they said you should change the Maf on an Impreza every 3yrs.
I assume it’s to keep it working as it should but I can’t find anything online as to reason why.
Any thoughts?

Oh and how comes OEM prices vary so much. Ordered from Japan it’s over £100 before delivery and yet some eBay shops it’s £30 delivered.

AFAIK there is no real reason to change every three years - you can clean it without problems - unlike some of the earlier ones.
Prices vary, depending upon the manufacturer - not all are Subaru/Denso and some on the bay show as "remanufactured".
