On a 95 WRX, Now before i venture in replacing what is a £5 part which will likely cost me around £200 as will probably replace timing belt etc , its due in about 20k but since im tackling this job might as well replace it , trying to see if it can be anything else ( clutching at straws i know )
So, 1st video is of what you see when car as been stationary some hours, 2nd vid is of car running , you can just see the trickle of coolant seaping down, near the sump bolt .
im guessing its leaking from this gasket
back of a water pump
bloody annoying tho if suddenly that gasket is leaking for no reason grrrr
Cant see vid link?
mine was a failed pump and leaking from the front, there are a few small pipes under there so might be one of those or the gasket like you say.
mine was due a new belt kit anyway so did that with the water pump, got a good price from AS Performance.
They show in Edge but not Firefox (and chrome) so have re-posted them using BBcode and hey presto

EDIT:
Very interesting that they appear in preview and work but disappear when you post.
Maybe something to do with them being facebook links
ok cheers guys, maybe yeah cause they are facebook links, funny thing is i can play them from the scoobynet forum , i set them in the public section of my profile, i think its the forum as this method works on other sites.
Thanks for trying to re-post them, will try and conver them to below 5 meg so i can upload them via scoobynet as it has a 5 meg limit on files.
Vid links working.
There is a smaller pipe above that one on the clip, think it's a bypass pipe, could be that,or is it possibly coming from the top of the thermostat housing/gasket?
edit: Looking again, thinking the 2 pipes are on the opposite side.

Yeah the 2 pipes are on the opposite side , see the pic of the used water pump.
I will check again but sure it's not thermostat housing , if it's not that it can only be the pump gasket ???
Looking again at pictures of the water pump I don't think it's the rear gasket , it's either the shaft seal or stat housing but stat housing baffles me as surely it would drip to the bottom of the stat housing
any way 9 o'clock on the stat housing in this pic is where mine drips down .
and why worse when not under pressure and not moving ?
Mine was leaking from the pulley area so was a duff shaft seal, was told it's rare for them to fail, strangely enough it was worse when not running, and really poured out when I took the header cap off. Must be when de-pressurised?
It'll stop leaking when sufficient vacuum is present until you take the cap of or start it. I hope I'm wrong for your sake but they don't generally fix themselves. I would be checking all the pipework especially the solid pipe that runs up between the belt covers.
Nah I fully agree nothing generally "seals" once it's leaking but it hasn't leaked overnight , I've had it upto temp twice , removed rad cap , had fans kick in , let it cool and still nothing
im not convinced I'm out of the woods but merely given a reprieve as such for now lol
