Default Weird Sound When Turning Steering Wheel

Hi All,

I have a 2004 Blobeye STI and have noticed that when turning the steering wheel I hear a strange noise from the offside front that sounds as if you were to stretch a metal cord (imagine like tuning a piano) I have uploaded a video onto youtube at
does anyone know what this could be and if it is anything that I should be worrying about?

I have only had the car three weeks so am still 'learning' her characteristics, currently on 'Maxpeeding Rods' coil overs which after a quick google appear to be budget ones?

Any help/advice appreciated

Thanks

Phil

Sounds a bit like top mount bearings sticking.. is the noise inside the car by the wheel or just being transmitted into car?

Thanks for the reply Chrisp11981, it sounds like the noise is being transmitted into the car from the wheel if that makes any sense? Cant really hear it at speed but that could just be because it is being drowned out by the exhaust/road noise. Only tend to hear it at really low speeds or when turning slowing onto the drive or car parking space

Thanks 1509 Jo, Sorry to be dim, but as the car has Coilovers fitted, does this mean that I need a complete new set or am i able to just get a replacement topmount?

You should be able to fit top mounts separately, unless your coilovers are particularly unusual...

Thanks for your reply guys, took my car to Arden Bridge in Redditch and they took a good look. The coil overs that have been fitted by the previous owner are real budget ones (you can pick them up on ebay for between £290 - £350 and as such seem to have a weird setup. They confirmed that the bearing is shot and that noise I am hearing are the bearings sticking. As a result I have had to purchase a new set of Coil Overs which sucks but I am planning on getting them done at the same time the Full Service, Timing Belt and Underseal is being done, so it is an expensive month but at least I should be sorted for the year (touch wood). I went for a set of TEINs in the end.

Anyone want to buy a kidney? haha
