Would the mdx555-450 be considered old hat these days?

Looking for a 450+ capable turbo to sit on a 2.1 but don't want to over spec. I see most people have a hard on for sc46 these days. What's everyone's experience and thoughts on these turbos?

I had one for a while on a 2.0, it was a somewhat disappointing, i think you will be better looking elsewhere for your turbo.

No experience with MDX555-450, however I did put an SC46 on my 2.1. It lasted 3000 miles and then the plastic bearing cages gave way, SC/Blouch said warranty would not be honoured due to high EGTs. Had to pay £800 to get of fixed by Blouch, upon its return I sent it to Owen Developments to have plastic bearing cages replaced with metal ones and thicker heatsheild for bearings, that cost another £450. So personally I wouldn't go SC/Blouch again.

Went really well, 442hp/390ftlb on a TMIC . . . .I'm still running the OwenDevelopments re-engineered SC46 30,000 miles later

This was only 2 years ago, I'm really unsure if they've made any changes.

I also Run a Blouch,

Been re-machined by Owen Developments to fit bigger billet wheel 73HTA, Metal caged bearings, heatshield, seals replaced & rebalanced

More than enough turbo for my stock newage sti engine

are they running GT30 based cores? i know the early gt30 cores used plastic cages but the later ones use metal cage with ceramic bearing

very nice...I had one on my old blob sti where it made 475 odd with 20 percent methanol...that was just a 2 litre with syvecs etc...445 on just vpower...it's a very capable turbo..with my new blob sti I'm debating whether to go rotated with a gt30...it's obviously a hell of a lot more cash but any bigger standard position turbos on my blob sti are just going to be laggy I think hence the rotated idea..

Don't get me wrong i like the turbo, just not happy about the failure and lack of warranty cover by SC/Blouch.

I've been looking at an EFR7163 with a rotated setup, looks to be a good performing turbo with quick spool. Anyone running one of these ?

what power are you running it at m8 on the standard sti and is it laggy?

But the gains % wise will be correct,

Don't confuse High Boost Threshold (When it makes full boost @ WOT) with Lag (Turbo Response within Boost Threshold)

Any 450+ capable turbo on our 15+ year old design 2.0 will have a high boost threshold think 4500+

But when above that the responce from my turbo is as good as stock i would say bearing in mind it has a FMIC

thanks for the graphs m8. so the stock engine is happy enough with that power level? im guessing the 6 speed has no issues either?

i would not expect it to last 100k

currently has 10k miles on it around 400bhp

68k in total

if your going much beyond 400 i would have a plan B just in case.

but if it did let go a 2nd hand newage bottom end wouldnt really brake the bank.
