Default Conflicting compression tests reults

Hi all!

This is my first post so hello to everyone, I've recently stepped into the Subaru world with a 2006 Spec D, nice clean unmodded 57,000 miles, FSH.

Really happy with my purchase but I did notice heavy oil usage on a run using plenty of boost, 0.75ltrs between fuel stops approx 300 miles. I also noticed a slightly odd 'reciprocating' noise on idle, very subtle, difficult to describe, only audible from inside the car.

So reading through the threads I started to think about ringland failure, so I booked it in at a local independent Subaru specialist for a compression test. The results were cylinder (1-4) 95 95 95 61 so I feared the worst, since the car came with some warranty cover I wanted to get the engine out right away, unfortunately this garage is very busy. So I go to another well renowned Subaru specialist, they don't see wrong with how it is running, steady idle etc. and do their own compression test. It comes back 120, 120, 120, 120. they suggest there is nothing wrong with the ringlands, and the excessive oil use could be due to oil passing the turbo and suggest running 10-50 oil instead of 5-30.

The difference between the tests is that on the second test the car had longer to cool down than the first.

Has anyone else had anything like this, or offer any insight?

Cheers!
