Default Clean rust from inside turbo CHRA??

Whilst stripping down my turbo for a DIY rebuild I noticed quite a lot of loose rusty particles dropping out of the various holes, are there any methods of successfully cleaning the internals of a turbo or am I looking at pipe cleaners and elbow grease??

cheers.

Clutch cleaning fluid or isoproyol alcohol, and pipe cleaners, and an airgun if you have a compressor!

Worked a treat for me.

Are you talking about the water jacket? If yes, then I'm not sure cleaning it out too meticulously is worth the effort. If you're talking about the oil feed/exit then obviously go crazy with cleaning, but there really shouldn't be any rust in there in the first place.

Either way you don't really want any hard particulates in either system! Although definetly not in the oil system especially when you see how narrow some of the oil feeds are. As with any engine or turbo build you want to be as clean as possible. An old phrase was cleanliness is next to godliness... I'm not religious but the mantra is valid, and the advice is sound!
