EJ205 stroker engine
At the moment I am going to rebuild my stock EJ205 (which is broken because of a shop mistake - they throw something into one of cylinders; block requires rebore, crankshaft and rods are in mint condition).
Someone just adviced that instead of rebuilding engine as stock I could build a stroker for not that much more. Does anyone here built stroker on ej205 (not ej207)? I have following questions:
1. Is it worth going the stroker route if the car is my daily and I will not exceed 350bhp? My main motivation is to get wider powerband and low rpm response. Will the 2.1 (2.2) stroker give me noticeable difference in this aspect (low grunt, better low responsiveness), is it worth to pay extra for that engine modification? Or could I achieve the same low grunt with smaller turbo?
What could give me better low rpm responsiveness and lower lag treshold: stock ej205 with hybrid td04 (and circa 300-310bhp) or 2.2 ej205 stroker with let's say vf35 (and around 330-340bhp)?
I have read scottyPPP thread and he on his
2. Is doing it on ej205 worth it?
3. I am thinking about using MAHLE stroker pistons + 2.5 strenthened crankshaft. What else would I need? Can I reuse my stock connecting rods? Some say the sti rods are much stronger, while the others say they have the comparable strength ( http://www.6starspeed.com/sumybu.html ) and both types should be OK up to 300WHP - which is about 350BHP, so my goals don't exceed that.
A note on a gearbox. Currently I am running on 04 JDM WRX 5 speed which I've been told is essentially the same as P1 gearbox. I would like to use potential of this gearbox but avoid swapping to a 6speed.
