I have just had a replacement short engine,
heads and turbo under warrenty and would
like to ask 'those who know' about the following :

Short Engine EJ205 Impreza
Heads EJ205
Turbo 98-08

The car is a Dec98 UK model.

Is the EJ205 the code for the engine type and does the 205 refer to the bhp (ie 205bhp for early 98 and 215 for late 98/early 99).

I am sure that you could not put an older one on,
but would be interested to know if this is true...

Knowing whether a December 98 UK impreza is classed as an MY99 would also be useful. The dealer says it has the 215bhp 99 engine etc...

 

EJ205 is the designation of the engine and is a MY99/MY00 UK spec item, EJ207 is the Japanese spec equivelant for the STi5 and 6.

98-08 is MY99 as that started August '98.

Interestingly the MY01/02 series cars with their 80% new engines use an .... EJ205 for the WRX and an ... EJ207 for the Sti's.

A December 98 should be a MY99 with an EJ205 engine
